Backing Young People
The city we want tomorrow starts with the young people we support today.
A Capital City That Backs Its Young People
Hobart’s future depends on the young people we support today. As Tasmania’s capital city, we should be a place where they feel respected, included and confident that there is a meaningful future for them here.
YouthARC is an important part of that vision, but it does not stand alone. Organisations such as the Beacon Foundation and PCYC also play a vital role — building confidence, providing mentors, supporting young people at risk of disengagement and creating pathways into education, training, employment and community life.
When Council, local businesses and trusted youth organisations work together, we give young people more than services. We give them belonging, direction and genuine reasons to build their careers, families and futures in Tasmania.
As Lord Mayor, I will champion YouthARC and strengthen partnerships with organisations already doing valuable work across our community. I want young people to know that Hobart values their ideas, needs their talent and is prepared to create a real place for them in the future of our capital city.
A successful capital city should not simply watch its young people leave because they cannot see opportunity at home. It should back them early, open doors and give them every reason to stay, contribute and help shape the next chapter of Hobart and Tasmania.
